November was an extremely busy time for the Clinical Trials and New Therapies Goal Group. On the tail end of the Diabetes Canada Conference and on World Diabetes Day – November 14th, 2017 – the CIHR/JDRF iCT multi-year operating grant application was due.   Eight letters of intent were selected for this competition, with four applications to be funded starting of April 1st, 2018 to a maximum of $3,000,000 over four years.  This competition is the first of two joint funding opportunities from JDRF/CIHR, with the second competition expected next year.  The applications are co-led by leading investigators in the field and patient partners.   Diabetes Action Canada is proud to be collaborating with all eight applications that went forward as it is the Mission of our Network and our Clinical Trials Goal Group to improve the lives of those living with Type 1 Diabetes.  This JDFR and CIHR joint opportunity will provide nearly $24,000,000 over its two competitions towards designing clinical trials with patients and caregivers in mind. Many of the researchers leading successful applications will become members of Diabetes Action Canada if they are not already. They will add to our efforts to unify talent from all over the country advancing innovative and effective clinical trials research in Type-1 Diabetes.
