Programs

Improving patient outcomes and experiences

We focus on bringing patients, their caregivers and researchers together to identify the health concerns of those living with diabetes and to co-create research projects that address these concerns. We partner and collaborate with university research teams across Canada, non-profit organizations, and provincial governments to plan, execute and evaluate these research projects so we can improve patient outcomes and experiences.

Diabetic Foot Care and Prevention of Lower Limb Amputations

Preventing lower limb amputation through a community-based chiropody-led approach to treating and preventing foot ulcers.

Diabetic Retinopathy Screening

Preventing Diabetic Retinopathy through accessible screening methods and advanced technology.

Digital Health

Using health data to better understand those living with diabetes and transform diabetes self-management.

Indigenous Peoples Health

Building programs and capacity in the respectful engagement of Indigenous people in patient-oriented research.

Innovations in Type 1 Diabetes

Creating collaborative patient-oriented research programs that enables innovative research in T1D.

Knowledge Mobilization

Knowledge mobilization (KM) involves activities that help create and use research in practical ways. For example, working together with patient partners to develop research and sharing the results with others are both KM activities. The goal of KM is to close the gap between research (what we know) and practice (what we do). This helps bring research into real-world use more quickly, improving the lives of patients and the public

Mental Health and Diabetes

Developing programs that will improve the quality of life for people with diabetes by addressing their mental health and addiction needs.

Older Adults with Diabetes

Providing individualized solutions that help more people live longer, healthier lives with diabetes while avoiding complications.

Patient Engagement

Engaging people with diabetes as active partners in health research to maximize the benefits of research for all communities.

Training and Mentoring

Ensuring patient-oriented research remains top-of-mind by training the next generation to see it as a critical part of their approach to research.
