Mosana Abraha

Description

Mosana Abraha is a second-year medical student at the University of Toronto working under the supervision of Dr. Calvin Ke. Her passion for youth outreach and health equity stems from her experiences navigating higher education as a first-generation Canadian and medical student. She has led projects ranging from health literacy campaigns for marginalized groups to outreach programs for low-income youth in Toronto. Her Eritrean Canadian community has inspired her research to enhance health risk communication for patients with young onset type 2 diabetes (YOD)—an illness that disproportionately affects people of First nations and ethnic minority groups. Like her Eritrean-Canadian community, the YOD patient population experience barriers to accessing care due to complex psychosocial challenges, lower socioeconomic status, and poor health literacy.
